As CTO/CPO at Sami Saúde, I faced the challenge of building from scratch the first 100% digital health insurance provider in Brazil, a concept similar to Oscar Health, one of the largest digital health insurers in the U.S. The main goal was to reimagine how people interact with health plans, from enrollment to usage.

The first step was assembling a lean but high-performing technology and product team. We hired skilled and dedicated professionals who were essential for the rapid execution of our project. In just four months, our team built the technological infrastructure needed to launch operations.

We adopted a user-centered approach that guided all our design and development decisions. Instead of merely digitizing existing bureaucracy, we chose to innovate. Our platform simplified the process of signing up for and using a health plan, introducing the concept of a family doctor and significantly reducing the barriers that often prevent people from accessing the care they need.

This customer focus and the rapid delivery of a disruptive product helped us secure the largest Series A funding round for a healthtech in Brazil at the time—R$90 million. This funding not only validated the value of our proposition but also allowed us to further invest in improving and expanding our services, scaling the technology/product team, and growing our operations.

The business impact was significant. Sami Saúde quickly gained traction, attracting a large user base and establishing a strong reputation in the healthcare market. This demonstrated that when used effectively, technology can truly transform how people engage with healthcare services, enhancing their experience and overall quality of life.
